Kwa-Guqa Disability Centre
Kwa-Guqa Disability Centre caters for handicapped youth and adults from the age of 18. The Centre is located at Lynnville, eMalahleni in Mpumalanga. It consists of 11 staff members including Committee members and is licensed to house 40 learners by the Department of Social Development.
The Centre supports physically disabled and slow learners within the Emalahleni community. It is funded by the Department of Social Development through a grant, community donations and the learners’ enterprising skills. The learners pay a joining fee of R40 per annum. The enterprising skills of learners include manufacturing and selling of firewood to the community, fixings wheelchairs for the general hospital and building wooden huts, chairs and dog kennels.
The school specialises in skills such as:
- Woodwork
- Catering
- Sewing
- Wheelchair repairs
- Pipe fitting
- Gardening
The Centre works in partnership with organisations such as Eskom, Department of Health, the local golf club and SIHOLD. It will benefit from more partnerships from like-minded organisations and companies with a passion for making a difference in the lives of people.
